Sixty-three goals in 26 games. That is where Inter Miami CF sit heading into the week, the highest total scored by any club tracked across the major leagues this season. It works out to 2.4 goals per game, a rate that would headline most attacking charts on its own.
Except it does not top this one.
The Rate Chasers
Two sides have matched or beaten Miami's strike rate while playing fewer matches. Viking FK have scored 54 times in just 21 Eliteserien games, a return of 2.6 per game. Lions FC, in Queensland's NPL, have been almost identical: 57 goals from 22 outings, also 2.6 a game. Both clubs have played five fewer matches than Miami yet are closing in on their goal tally.
IK Sirius sit just behind that pair. Their 52 goals from 22 Allsvenskan games average out to 2.4 per game, level with Miami's rate despite four fewer matches on the clock.
The Volume Chasers
Behind Miami on sheer numbers, the picture spreads across continents. FC Seoul have found 56 goals in 30 K League 1 games (1.9 per game), the highest total of any side that has played 30 or more matches. Flamengo have 55 from 28 in the Brasileirão (2.0 per game), and Yunnan Yukun have 54 from 26 in the Chinese Super League (2.1 per game).
Charleston Battery round out the group with 50 goals in 25 USL Championship games, a tidy 2.0 per game.
What It Adds Up To
Line the numbers up and a pattern emerges: nobody has scored more raw goals than Miami, but nobody has scored them faster than Viking and Lions. Sirius are chasing both marks at once. Seoul, Flamengo and Yunnan Yukun have simply played more football and kept finding the net at a steady clip rather than an explosive one.
Different leagues, different match counts, same theme: defenses across MLS, the Eliteserien, the NPL, Allsvenskan, the K League, the Brasileirão, the Chinese Super League and the USL Championship are all being made to pay.
