On paper that is a healthy number for anyone who likes their football with a scoreboard that keeps moving, but the detail underneath tells a more layered story.
The extremes
At one end sat Universitatea Craiova, who put four unanswered goals past FC Universitatea Cluj in the Superliga without reply, the widest margin of victory recorded in the window. At the other end of the entertainment scale, Göztepe and Gaziantep FK served up the highest-scoring match anywhere, six goals shared between them in the Trendyol Super Lig, Gaziantep coming out on top 4-2 away from home.
Two very different games, two very different ways of hitting the same scoresheet totals: one built on a single side taking total control, the other on end-to-end chaos.
The quieter half of the story
For all the goals, defence had its say too. Eighteen of the 35 matches tracked produced a clean sheet at one end, meaning more than half the games played out with at least one side keeping the opposition off the board entirely. That is a reminder that a 2.60 goals-per-game average is rarely evenly spread. Plenty of matches in this window were low-scoring or shut out completely, while others, like Göztepe versus Gaziantep, did the heavy lifting on the goals column almost by themselves.
Put another way: goals came in bunches for some, and not at all for others. The average flattens what was, in reality, a day and a half split fairly cleanly between shootouts and stalemates.
