Eight matches across four continents produced the same outcome on Thursday: one side scored, the other didn't. The shutouts ranged from tight 1-0 squeezes to a five-goal statement, and the Emperor Cup alone supplied half the list.

Japan's cup runs deliver in bulk

Gamba Osaka were the day's biggest scorers among the clean-sheet crowd, beating Tokushima Vortis 5-0. Kashiwa Reysol were not far behind, putting four past FC Imabari without reply. Kyoto Sanga FC and Vissel Kobe took the narrower route, both winning 1-0, against Fujieda MYFC and Sagan Tosu respectively. Four Emperor Cup ties, four shutouts, and a combined 11 goals for the winning side against none in return.

Elsewhere on the board

In MLS, Seattle Sounders FC saw off Real Salt Lake 2-0. In Brasileirão Serie B, Operário-PR won 2-0 away at Criciúma. In Colombia's Categoría Primera A, Deportivo Cali edged Independiente Santa Fe 1-0 on the road. And in a club friendly, Pogoń II Szczecin beat Świt Skolwin Szczecin 2-0.

Here is the full list of Thursday's wins to nil:

  • Seattle Sounders FC 2-0 Real Salt Lake (MLS)
  • Criciúma 0-2 Operário-PR (Brasileirão Serie B)
  • Independiente Santa Fe 0-1 Deportivo Cali (Categoría Primera A)
  • Gamba Osaka 5-0 Tokushima Vortis (Emperor Cup)
  • Kashiwa Reysol 4-0 FC Imabari (Emperor Cup)
  • Kyoto Sanga FC 1-0 Fujieda MYFC (Emperor Cup)
  • Vissel Kobe 1-0 Sagan Tosu (Emperor Cup)
  • Pogoń II Szczecin 2-0 Świt Skolwin Szczecin (Club Friendlies)

Six of the eight winning sides did it by a single goal cushion, but the two exceptions, Gamba Osaka and Kashiwa Reysol, made sure the day's headline number came from Japan rather than anywhere else.
