The headline deal sees Sandro Tonali arrive from Newcastle United for €108 million, almost half as much again as his estimated market value of €74 million, while West Ham's Mateus Fernandes (€99 million, market value €34 million) and Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke (€60 million, market value €49 million) also join.
The Italian midfielder becomes the second-most expensive acquisition of the current window behind Manchester City's €135 million capture of Elliot Anderson, and reunites with a manager who has made no secret of his intention to reshape the squad. Tonali made 41 appearances for Newcastle last term, contributing five goals and three assists in all competitions.
Premium on potential
Fernandes represents the biggest gamble in pure valuation terms: Spurs are paying nearly three times his assessed worth for a player who registered four goals and two assists in 38 outings for West Ham. Van Hecke, by contrast, arrives as an established Premier League defender with 35 games under his belt last year, his fee sitting €11 million above market estimate.
Elsewhere, the headline figure belongs to City's record-breaking move for Anderson, but it is Newcastle who have been most active in reinvesting the proceeds. Anthony Gordon's €80 million switch to Barcelona (market value €67 million) follows Tonali out of St James' Park, netting the club €188 million in gross sales. AC Milan's €74 million gamble on Gonçalo Ramos (market value €28 million) from Paris Saint-Germain continues a theme of inflated fees across Europe's top five leagues, while Liverpool and Aston Villa have also moved decisively with the arrivals of Jérémy Jacquet (€63.6 million) and Johan Manzambi (€60 million) respectively.
