Stade Rennais have completed the signing of Charlie Cresswell from Toulouse for a fee of 22.5M euros. The centre back arrives with a market value of around 24M euros, meaning Rennes got their man for slightly below his estimated worth, a rare outcome in a market where valuations are usually left trailing by transfer fees rather than the other way round.
Cresswell's move is comfortably the biggest in a batch of recent deals that stretched from Ligue 1 down to lower-profile leagues in Asia and the Gulf, with fees ranging from six figures to over twenty million.
South America to Brazil and the Gulf
CA Independiente sold forward Diego Tarzia to Vitória for 2.3M euros, a fee close to his roughly 3M euro valuation. Nacional moved Juan De los Santos to Al-Jazira for 1.1M euros, slightly above his listed market value of around 1M euros, a sign the Abu Dhabi club were prepared to pay a premium to get the deal done.
Iran's Aluminium Arak Cash In
Esteghlal FC were busy raiders of Aluminium Arak, taking two players in the same batch of deals. Mohammad Khalife joined for 370k euros despite a market value closer to 1M euros, while Bahram Goudarzi moved for 115k euros. Both fees sit well under their respective valuations, pointing to a club selling on terms that favoured the buyer.
The Smaller Fees
Further down the list, Zamora CF sent Jaime Sancho to Al-Madina for 200k euros, Kevin Felida left FC Den Bosch for Hà Nội in a 100k euro move, and Inter Lagos FC forward Olamikun Adebisi Timileyin joined Sporting Braga for just 50k euros. None of the three carried a market value above zero in current estimates, but all three represent clubs taking a punt on upside rather than paying for the here and now.
Taken together, the deals show a market working on two very different speeds: a single marquee fee out of France dwarfing everything else, and a string of smaller moves where clubs in Iran, Vietnam, Venezuela and Nigeria did business for sums that barely register against Cresswell's price tag.
