Eighty-six matches this weekend ended with both teams on the scoresheet. Most were tidy, forgettable 1-1s or 2-1s. These eight were not.
Celtic's goal rush
Nothing came close to Celtic's 7-1 demolition of Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership, eight goals in a single game and a lone Hearts strike that barely registered against the flood the other way.
Austria and Norway produced their own one-sided classics. SK Sturm Graz put six past Grazer AK 1902 in a 6-1 Austrian Bundesliga win, and in the Eliteserien, Molde FK matched them goal for goal in a 6-1 rout of IK Start. Both games finished with seven goals and a losing side that never stopped trying, which is precisely why they count here rather than among the routine blowouts.
Ligue 1 did not do things by halves
French football produced two of the wildest scorelines of the round. Angers were beaten 5-2 at home by Olympique de Marseille, shipping five while still finding the net twice themselves. Across the division, Paris FC and Stade Rennais traded blows in a 4-3 thriller, seven goals and a result that stayed live until the final whistle.
Goals everywhere else
The Eredivisie had its own slugfest as FC Groningen fell 2-5 to AFC Ajax, conceding five but never shutting up shop themselves. In Italy's Serie C Girone C, Cavese beat Casarano 5-2, and in Greece's Stoiximan Super League, PS Kalamata edged OFI Crete 4-3 in a seven-goal shootout that could have gone either way until the end.
Eight different leagues, eight different stories, and the same common thread: defenses that could not hold and attacks that refused to stop. Add it up and that is 54 goals across just these eight matches, out of a weekend that produced 86 games where both teams scored.
