Clean sheets came in bulk on Friday. Across the Champions League, the CAF Champions League, the Copa Libertadores, the Copa Sudamericana and Brazil's Serie B, seven teams shut out their opponents completely, and six of them made it count with a win.
The Big Two in Europe
Manchester United put four past Sabah FK without reply, a 4-0 scoreline that did the job at Old Trafford. Across the continent, Bayern München went even further, hammering five past Bodø/Glimt in a 5-0 rout that stood as the heaviest shut-out of the day.
South America's quiet nights
The Copa Libertadores produced one of the day's more eye-catching results as Flamengo won 2-0 away at Independiente del Valle, keeping a clean sheet on the road. In the Copa Sudamericana, Cienciano saw off Montevideo City Torque 2-0 at home.
Brazil's Serie B doubles up
Two matches in Brasileirão Serie B finished the same way. Vila Nova FC beat Goiás 2-0, and Sport Recife did the same to Ponte Preta, both games ending 2-0 with the winning side conceding nothing.
The odd one out
Not every shut-out belonged to the home side. In the CAF Champions League, Wiliete SC came away from Foresters FC with a slender 1-0 win, the smallest margin of the day but still enough to keep a blank sheet at the back.
Seven different scorelines, five different competitions, one common thread: not a single goal let in. On a day when the Champions League alone contributed heavily to a huge overall goal count, these were the games where the back line simply did not blink.
